Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The primary function of the Respiratory Care Aide is to provide assistance to Respiratory Therapists and the Respiratory Manager. Duties include routine equipment cleaning, quality control checks, inventory, transports, daily oxygen compliance, electrocardiograms (EKGs), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during emergency events, charge reconciliation, clerical duties and computer interactions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collects and disassembles respiratory equipment used by patients. Cleans and assembles equipment by promoting safety by following infection control and manufacturing guidelines.

  • Performs quality checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly and ready for patient emergency use.

  • Transports and stocks equipment in designated areas of facility to maintain adequate safety levels.

  • Coordinates equipment malfunction with Clinical Engineering Department. Maintains daily and monthly equipment logs.

  • Orders oxygen from vendor to maintain safety levels for patient care. Keeps adequate and safety oxygen cylinder levels in nursing units and storage area in compliance with Joint Commission requirements.

  • Removes empty oxygen cylinders and restocks nursing units with full cylinders to meet patient needs and transports.

  • Assists with patient transports as needed under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. Responds to emergency events and may perform CPR as needed during medical emergencies.

  • Operates and sets up EKG machine, position leads unto patients and runs EKGs.

  • Performs daily charge reconciliation to ensure revenue integrity.

  • Performs clerical duties and computer interactions. shares responsibility for common goals of the team by assisting staff and manager, maintaining work environment and department supply inventories and communications any departmental issues.

Licensing/Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (required)

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

2 years of recent experience in acute care or healthcare setting (preferred)

Previous experience in Medical Billing (preferred)

Training

EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.​
