PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide acceptable quality ultrasound procedures utilizing varieties of ultrasound equipment.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduate or equivalent

2. Graduate of approved 24 month program in radiologic technology

3. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.)

4. One year program to become registered or eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

5. Basic computer knowledge

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

____ l. Transfers and positions patients

____ 2. Applies proper immobilization devices

____ 3. Monitors patient throughout exam

____ 4. Assists in cases requiring medical attention

____ 5. Assists radiologist in minor surgical techniques

____ 6. Is cognizant of patient’s suspected pathology as reported by an M.D.

____ 7. Analyzes patient’s general body size, physical condition, age and any ab

normalities in order to determine proper electronic and technical factors

____ 8. Reviews chart, abstracts and clinical and laboratory data pertinent to the

diagnosis, and reports to the radiologist

____ 9. Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards

____ 10. Sets, adjusts, manipulates and controls a variety of electronic

equipment to obtain ultrasound diagnostic images

____ 11. Operates all equipment properly and with care

____ 12. Reports immediately any malfunctions, necessary adjustments or

repairs

____ 13. Emergency call back as required

____ 14. Utilizes basic computer skills via the Radiology Management system

____ 15. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in Radiology. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
