A registered professional nurse sharing in the responsibilities of organizing and administering standards where the practice of nursing takes place. In cooperation with the unit manager, he/she is accountable for the counseling and development of nursing personnel as well as the supervision of patient care given on his/her shift. He/she participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Nursing Administration goals budget, policies and procedures, along with other members of the nursing management team. He/she serves as a resource to nursing personnel.
Assists unit manager with the orientation of new personnel to their shifts, their units and the policies and procedures of the institution.
Informs the personnel of new policies and procedures and instructs and interprets them to the staff members, patients, family members, and visitors to insure conformance, when necessary.
Advises, assists, and supports the nurses in the performance of their duties and any unusual situation that may occur. Is aware of the staffing needs of the units, their problems, their functions, and arranges the personnel according to the needs presented.
Provides information for performance evaluation of nursing staff and assists with needed action.
In cooperation with the unit manager, deals with personnel problems to provide for constructive, harmonious working relationships
Takes care of problems that need immediate attention and then refers them to the unit manager.
In cooperation with the unit manager, recommends promotion of the nursing personnel.
Assists with verifying nursing license of personnel from St Rita's Medical Center.
Verifies nursing license of private duty nurses and initiates his/her evaluation.
Initiates disciplinary action when indicated
Ensures staffing appropriate to meet patient needs in compliance with block staffing.
Supervises and coordinates activities on the assigned shift provide for competent and efficient patient care and safety of all patients and nursing personnel..
Gives input into budget process and maintains awareness of operating expenses, capital expense items, supplies, etc.
Serves as resource person to other department.
Attends and serves on committees in nursing, hospital-wide or professional nursing organizations Contacts department unit managers on a timely basis.
Collaborates with medical staff, as necessary.
Fosters good public relations for Nursing Division and St Rita's Medical Center.
Is knowledgeable regarding computer use.
