Under the direct supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and the Clinical Manager and/or Sr. Therapist, the Radiation Therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care using ionizing radiation supplied and controlled in radiation therapy equipment.  Provides care to neonate through geriatric patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and practices.  Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.


Graduate of AMA approved school which meets ARRT Standards.

License state of Ohio in Radiation Therapy.  ARRT certified.

One year experience preferred.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Exhibits skills and knowledge of current radiation therapy techniques, equipment and practice regarding ACR standards for Radiation Oncology.

Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients under severe physical and emotional stress.

CPR trained.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Complies with established Mercy policies and procedures and practice to assure that standards of quality, efficiency and safety are met.

Performs basic assessments, including vital signs and toxicity to treatment as it relates to scope of practice.

Applies relevant technical knowledge in the course of simulation, delivery of treatment, block cutting and basic dosimetry procedures.

Monitors patient’s tolerance to treatments.  Must evaluate reactions to treatment and take appropriate action, including report of unusual events to Radiation Oncologist and nursing staff.  Advises patients on action when indicated.

Keeps accurate records regarding delivery of treatment and simulation process.

Assures that each patient’s chart meets established standard:

             Identification Photo                   Adherence to Prescription

             Informed Consent                      Weekly Port Films

             Polaroid and Tattoo                    Patient Education

Participates in departmental meetings and Performance Improvement Program.

Monitors linear acceleration and simulator assuring that all equipment is operating in accordance with stated specifications in the procedure manual.

Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
