An administrative/academic position in which the Vice President Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty of the College serves as the academic officer of the College, assuming responsibility for all educational activities in the academic programs.  Directs faculty in planning, evaluating, and revising the curriculum.

Essential Job Functions

  • Upholds and promotes the Mission and Purposes, Core Values and Catholic identity in the college.
  • Submits reports to the President, Board, and accrediting and governmental agencies as required.
  • Participates in the selection, orientation, evaluation, retention, development, promotion and termination of faculty and academic support personnel.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for all aspects of the academic areas of the College to include library, registrar’s office and academic support center.
  • Serves as a member of the President’s Council and chair or member of committees as designated by the President.
  • Participates in the preparation and management of the academic budget necessary for the implementation of the curriculum.
  • Demonstrates skills in administration and planning for the academic arena.
  • Participates in and oversees program reviews as well as development of new degree and certificate programs, all levels of instruction and various delivery modalities.
  • Facilitates and promotes professional development of the faculty.
  • Ensures that all handbooks and policies concerning faculty and academic issues are kept current and accurate.
  • Serves as a role model for faculty in teaching, scholarship, and service across divisions and disciplines.
  • Demonstrates skills in budget management.
  • Enhances college recruitment and retention of its student body.
  • Relates well with people in an environment that promotes collegiality.
  • Supports educational and professional activities for faculty development.
  • Cooperates with the faculty and Vice President of Administrative Services in providing students with needed services as they progress through the academic programs.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mission and Core Values (Compassion, Excellence, Human Dignity, Justice, Sacredness of Life, Service) of Mercy Health Partners.
  • Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.

  • Interviews, hires, develops, counsels, and evaluates staff in order to maintain a highly competent, mission-oriented, and values driven team.

Employment Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in education or other approved academic area required.
  • Minimum of five years of administrative experience at the department chair or higher level of academic administration.
  • Minimum of five years experience as a full-time faculty member at the college or university level required.
  • Experience in developing innovative and collaborative educational programs within a college and in conjunction with other educational institutions.
  • Knowledge of, experience with, and commitment to the integration of information technology in the teaching/learning environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with those responsible for leading and administering the academic divisions of the College.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the faculty, students, and other employees, as well as representatives of various organizations in the community.
  • Ability to maintain confidences.
  • Active participation in community organizations is expected.
