Early Head Start Teacher

OVERVIEW

The EHS Teacher will contribute to the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate educational program that will provide children comprehensive quality services that meet the individual needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers being served.

  • Oversee the health, safety, and well-being of all center-based children.

  • Assesses the development of children and sets goals for their development; plans individualized curriculum to help children meet the objectives.

  • Assists with providing coaching and guidance to staff to ensure the successful inclusion of children with special needs in regular classroom activities.

  • Communicates effectively with parents and encourages growth and development of their child (ren); participates in two home visits and two parent-teacher conferences annually.

  • Follows Office of Head Start health and safety procedures (hand washing, diapering, handling body fluids, sanitizing toys and equipment, administering medication, serving bottles and food, dealing with children’s illnesses, and supervising children)

  • Reports directly to the Child Development Specialist and Lead Teacher concerning the Child Development Program and other job responsibilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.  High School Diploma or GED required.

2. Associates of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education and/or Human Development.

3. 90 Hour Child Care Certification.

4. 45 Hour Infant-Toddler Certification, and Child Development Associate Certification.

-Candidates must successfully obtain 45-hour Infant and Toddler certification within 3-months and obtain Infant and Toddler Child Development Associate within 6 months of hire.

5.  Experience documenting client services in paper files and online databases.

6.  Certification in CPR and First Aid upon start

7.  At least one (1) year of experience in the childcare field (preferred.)

8. Effective oral and written communication skills (preferred.)
