SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for managing the volunteer program activities in the Agency.  Ensures effective volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation and utilization to assist the patient/family, office and overall Agency needs.  Provides direction and supervision to Volunteer Clerk.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in social work or human services required.  Licensure per specific discipline.

A minimum two years experience in a health care setting. Hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred.

Understands and supports the philosophy of hospice care.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Organizational and time management skills.

Experience and or education in dealing with diversity issues.

Has a valid driver’s license and is insured in accordance with state and/or organizational requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provides direction and supervision to Volunteer Clerk including a yearly evaluation in conjunction with Manager of Psychosocial Services.

Recruits, screens and trains volunteers on a regular basis to meet the volunteer needs of the patients/families and of the Agency.

Develops in collaboration with Manager of Psychosocial Services and implements volunteer orientation and training program(s).

Ensures regulatory compliance related to documentation.

Strives to provide stewardship of volunteer funds.

Provides support and education through volunteer meetings, events and in-services to ensure volunteers are informed of Agency changes and hospice industry trends.

Facilitates communication with volunteers through monthly newsletter, Volunteer Advisory Council, etc.

Collaborates with the team for volunteer services with the patient/family/caregiver and entire hospice team. Assigns volunteers as appropriate. Provides feedback to volunteers as needed. Attends interdisciplinary team meetings for exchange of information.

Promotes positive employee relations and guest relations.

Ensures supervision, personnel file and evaluation of volunteers are maintained and occur in a timely and appropriate manner.

Provides recognition to volunteers to enhance their volunteer experience.

Maintains monthly statistics and reports as needed.

Provides information to individuals and community groups about hospice volunteer services and other aspects of Agency operations as needed.

Facilitates volunteer assistance at the Hospice House including Eucharistic Ministry, front desk coverage and companion volunteers to serve patients/families.

Actively participates in organization wide performance improvement program.

Performs other duties as assigned.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Hospice personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor. In addition, hospice personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job related skills and abilities. All personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.
