To provide lactation support and education to patients in the Family Birth Center as well as teaching community based breastfeeding classes. To provide support and education to staff and physicians regarding best practice and evidence-based lactation services. Responsibilities include direct patient care provided in a compassionate and timely manner. Growth and development is maintained through ongoing medical and technical education and research and ultimately contributes to the delivery of quality patient care.

JOB KNOWLEDGE · Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care for lactation. · Demonstrates knowledge of best practice and evidence-based care for lactation. · Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles and applies to teaching methodology.

QUALITY · Participates in collection of Joint Commission required data metrics as well as requirements for ODH.

CLERICAL DUTIES · Demonstrates competent use of a variety of computer functions. · Documents all information in computer as needed for patient record.

CLEANLINESS/SUPPLIES · Ensures work area, equipment and supplies are maintained in a clean and orderly condition. · Reports low stock items to supervisor. · Reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisor.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT · Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement goals and monitors. · Participates in performance improvement projects. · Assists in acquisition of performance improvement data. · Offers suggestions to performance improvement committee.

Required Minimum:

High School Diploma

Lactation Consultant Board Certified - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
