Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The primary responsibilities of this position are to perform various complex, diagnostic, non-invasive cardiac studies to evaluate the condition of the heart and related structures

Employment Qualifications

  • Work requires a degree or certificate from an AMA approved school in an allied health field with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics and diseases of the cardiovascular systems
  • Work requires knowledge and experience in ultrasound imaging, doppler and color flow techniques; must have ability to properly operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment at a level generally acquired during six to twelve months of on-the-job training and/or experience
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer/Cardiovascular Technology or registry eligible (ARDMS,CCI/NBCVT) preferred. Must obtain Registry within 18 months from date of hire

Essential Job Functions

  • Operates cardiac ultrasound equipment to produce 2-dimensional M-Mode and Doppler and Color Flow Doppler Analysis of heart valves, chambers and related structures
  • Performs high quality Adult and Geriatric Echocardiography with or without contrast
  • Obtains IV access as needed
  • Administers Definity contrast as directed

Other Job Functions

  • Maintains scheduling module in Centricity DMS
  • Maintains routine lab equipment monthly cleaning
  • Proofread preliminary information entered into Centricity DMS to eliminate typographical or inaccuracy errors for quality control
  • Advise Director, in a timely manner, when supplies are required.
  • Provide monthly statistics and participates in Quality improvement projects
  • Participates in monthly Echo educational meetings

Working Conditions

·May be required to wear protective equipment to including masks

·Adherence to hospital emergency policies and procedures

·May require traveling to other locations

·Participates in required activities to meet requirements for competency, training and evaluations

  • The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.  Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
  • Works in a patient care area where there is little exposure to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
  • Works in an area where there is potential radiation exposure, but is monitored by radiation badges.
