The Medical Lab Technician collects and processes specimens for testing as required and performs tests on blood, body fluids, and other appropriate specimens. During testing, the Medical Lab Technician operates automated and computerized equipment; performs quality control and evaluates laboratory data for accuracy. The Medical Lab Technician also provides reliable test results to appropriate personnel in a timely manner for the diagnosis and treatment of patients and performs other duties as assigned. These activities are to be consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Is a graduate of an approved school of medical laboratory technology (MLT) possessing an associate degree and is registered as a medical laboratory technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Is a graduate of an approved school of clinical laboratory assisting (CLA) and has achieved a satisfactory grade to qualify as a technologist in a proficiency exam approved by the Health and Human Services Department (HEW)
Is an individual first qualifying as technologist before July 1, 1971, who met the following requirements:
a) was performing the duties of a laboratory technician at any time between July 1, 1961 and January 1, 1968; and
b) has had at least 10 years of pertinent laboratory experience prior to January 1, 1968.
