Under supervision performs clinical Laboratory procedures, quality assurance and instrument maintenance, in compliance with established departmental and regulatory agency requirement.
Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. Uses set protocols and guidelines and independent judgment to evaluate the credibility and accuracy of test results. Records, reviews, releases test results in the LIS. Utilizes computer reports for optimal turnaround times and productivity. Provides recommendations for process improvement to the Laboratory Manager. Available for consultation as needed with staff and/or physician.
Maintains compliance of their section with all appropriate agencies (CAP, TJC, OSHA, CLIA). Develops and maintains procedure manuals. Implements new procedures and equipment. Establishes and reviews preventative maintenance program for all equipment in their area. Resolves technical problems, investigates complaints and is available for consultation with staff.
Participates in CE program. Conducts technical in-services as needed. In-services and performs competencies on staff on new procedures and equipment; initially, at six months and yearly. Notifies Manager of staff concerns in their section. Trains and evaluates students as part of their clinical education.
Reviews quality control and implements appropriate corrective action. Assigns, submits and reviews CAP proficiency testing. Documents response to unacceptable answers. Monitors supplies and service expenses to insure compliance with identified fiscal goals. Submits purchasing requests, and check requests as necessary.
Performs customer service duties, including answering and directing phone calls, relaying and faxing test results, troubleshooting specimen problems including missing orders and specimens. Fields customer complaints/concerns and addresses as necessary.
Completes schedules for department and updates time/schedule system as necessary for daily operations. Prepares all required management reports. Participates in various laboratory and hospital committees. Represents facility at monthly technical meetings.
Assist Manager by contributing feedback for employee performance appraisals. Available to assume Laboratory Operations Manager duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Manager.
Required: Associate Degree in Medical Technology or education and experience that meets CLIA requirements for high complexity testing personnel.
ASCP certification or eligible preferred
