Critical Care Transport Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Critical Care Transport EMT -Paramedic (CCTEMT-P) is responsible for assisting with urgent and critical care in a prompt and efficient manner for all patients transported via Bon Secours Critical Care Transport. The CCTEMT-P is responsible, in conjunction with other team members, for assessing, planning, organizing, documenting, and evaluating patient care. The CCTEMT-P demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served while on an inter-facility transport. The CCTEMT-P acts as a professional representative of Bon Secours Richmond Health System to the community, as an educator to professional groups and to emergency medical services.

Essential Job Functions

Provides professional care to meet the urgent/emergent needs of the patient during interfacility transfer in the ground transport environment. Works with the Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse (CCTRN) and Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist (CCTRT) to assess patient condition, to interpret patient related data, to establish immediate priorities and plan of care.

Assists in daily maintenance of the Bon Secours Critical Care ambulance, equipment and supplies as defined by departmental policy and procedures. May operate Bon Secours Critical Care ambulances as needed.

Provides and promotes excellent customer service for both internal and external customers. Holds self and others accountable for behaviors that promote service excellence.

Participates in pre and post transport debriefings in conjunction with all other team members involved in the transport.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit. Demonstrates expertise in age appropriate care

Documentation of required assessments and interventions, medication administration and procedures performed. 

Maintain clinical competency required to carry out CCTEMT-P roles and responsibilities to include initial and ongoing education requirements per policy

Employment Qualifications

1. Required Minimum Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree in Emergency Medical Technician --Paramedic

2. 2 Year/ Associates Degree preferred

3. Emergency Medical Technician -Paramedic BLS, PALS, ACLS, NPR, EVOC required

4. BLS, ACLS, NRP PALS, EVOC instructor certifications preferred

5. 2 years of Paramedic experience required

6. Excellent driving record

7. Critical Care Transport Experience. Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program Course completion preferred
