Manager - Environmental Services - Tiffin and Willard Hospitals - Full Time Days

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Plans, organizes, supervises, coordinates and controls the activities of environmental services providing a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the 24 hour operation of  Tiffin and Willard hospitals.  Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Manages organization, cost estimating, budget development, scheduling, contracts, and status reporting for the department. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reports to the Senior Director, Facility Support and Campus Planning, Rural Division and the Facilities Operations Manager while overseeing and directing the work of assigned personnel engaged in various activities including scheduling and supervision of the courier.Performs the duties of Environmental Services staff as needed.
  • Monitors department personnel matters including interviewing and hiring of new staff, training, evaluating work performance, promotion, counseling, discipline and termination. Directs employee grievances to Director-HR.Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel information as per hospital policy.
  • Develops, evaluates and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives and standards of work to ensure safe efficient utilization of supplies and equipment in maintaining and cleaning of the facilities.
  • Works closely with other departments and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, and orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.
  • Responsible for providing input into the development ofand monitoring of annual operating budget. Effectively plans, utilizes, and monitors financial resources.
  • Maintains compliance with The Joint Commission, federal, state and local standards and regulations.Adheres to all standards and policies regarding safety/patient safety initiatives and Corporate Responsibility Program.
  • Inspects and evaluates the physical condition ofhospital owned property in assigned areas.Recommends painting, repairs, furnishing, refurbishing, replacement, and reallocation of space to improve sanitation, appearance and efficiency.
  • Completes annual education modules required for department and attends department meetings and mandatory inservices. Participates in the assigned hospital wide services committees as well as other committees, as needed.
  • Monitors distribution and collection of linens.Monitors the collection of infectious and non infectious waste.Responsible for pest control as needed.
  • Utilizes appropriate interpersonal styles and methods in influencing groups or individuals external to formal work unit.Establishes positive working relationships by obtaining cooperation and respect.Clearly, accurately, and concisely expresses ideas in written or oral format.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma/GED

Minimum Qualifications

One to threeyears of related progressive experience in Environmental Services. Knowledge of Environmental services policies and procedures preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Must have interpersonal and communication skills to effectively lead assigned personnel and maintain cooperative working relationships within the department and facility.Must have analytical abilities sufficient to evaluate work performance of assigned personnel, resolve complaints, recommend methods of improving services provides, and develop work schedules and assignments.
